The first keynote speaker at our Ruka seminar is Director-General Emil Asp from Traficom.
Emil Asp, M.Soc.Sc., was appointed Director General of the New Information and Future Connections Division of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom as of 1 October 2024. His term of office will last five years.
Emil Asp joined Traficom from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, where he has worked for over 10 years. Asp has held a wide range of positions, including communications, media and digital policy, regulation and passenger transport-related positions. Most recently, he led the Market Unit of the Ministry’s Network and Services Department.
The Information and Future Connections sector, which was launched in early October 2024, handles tasks related to digital connections, communications markets, and the development and digitalization of the transport system. In addition, the sector includes tasks related to the production and utilization of information and the supervision of digital services and devices. Asp is also a member of Traficom´ s management team.
When taking up his position, Asp described the future, among other things, saying:
”For example, the changing operating environment and EU legislation are placing great expectations on the telecoms sector and the operation of digitalised transport connections in the coming years. Close cooperation with our stakeholders is key to the development of future communications and transport connections. This is what we will focus on in the future.”
